CQUniversity Bachelor of Theatre students turned Mackay pink last week with their musical performance of Legally Blonde.

Based on the film of the same name, the musical was a high-energy show packed with catchy tunes, dazzling dance numbers and an empowering message.

It followed Elle Woods, played by third year student Tiffany Minter, as she traded fashion for Harvard Law in a bold bid to win back her ex, but along the way she discovered her voice, her strength and potential.

Held at CQU’s Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM), the students showcasing their musical talents also included Thomas Wakeman, Shaugn Mitchell, Kaitlin Smart, Jenelli Gorrion, Blake Ferris, Natalia Luinys, Courtney Starr, Lara Kleem, Elle Nowlan, Eve Pratt, Dan Marshall, Emily Hendry, Caitlyn Roberts, Jade Petersen, Bee Coyle, Mia Cundell, Lily Auguston, Alannah Doyle and Callum Jenner.

The cast worked under Guest Director Maureen Bowra, whose creative leadership in directing and choreography is renowned across Australia.

Maureen said she was impressed by the talent of CQCM students, commending the performers for their commitment and dedication.

"It was fabulous working with these young people, the next generation of theatre nerds, who were thirsty for improvement and soaked up every single lesson and opportunity," she said.

"There is something about the culture here which meant that the cohort seemed to really take care of each other, more so than other institutions I've worked with.

"This is a group of people who celebrated everyone's wins, lifted each other up and supported one another when they were down. It's really quite beautiful how connected they are.

"I can't wait to see them out in the real world when they graduate, and to see what interesting careers they carve out for themselves. I'll be in the front row, cheering them on!"

CQCM staff members Sarah Rozekrans, Nicole Thomson and Markus Meier supported the show behind the scenes with musical direction and production.

"Legally Blonde was a mammoth undertaking for the whole team. It was physically and mentally demanding on everyone involved as the numbers are huge - there are thick harmonies, lots of dancing and skipping, and many costume and set changes," Ms Rozekrans said.

"Real dogs were also involved - overall the show was exciting, energetic, comedic and heart-warming."
