The 2021 National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) was a follow up survey to the 2016 Respect Now Always survey commissioned by Universities Australia (UA). The NSSS was delivered by the Social Research Centre (SRC) from 6 September – 3 October 2021, with the purpose of collecting data on the scale and nature of university experiences of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
The design, methodology and participant sampling of the 2021 NSSS meets the high standards of academically sound research. It was designed and tested to ensure all invited students, regardless of the nature of their personal experiences, felt welcome to contribute their voices. This ensures a comprehensive and representative picture of the nature, prevalence, and culture on university campuses.
We thank all students who participated in the national survey and those who also bravely shared their personal stories. CQUniversity will use findings from both the national report and our own institutional report to continue developing and implementing initiatives that seek to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and sexual assault, and better support victim survivours.
