As the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Nick Klomp leads the University Executive team. He also reports and provides advice to the University Council on strategy and operations, especially when it comes to the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of university programs and activities. The Vice-Chancellor and President also assists Council in the discharge of its formal external accountabilities.
The Vice-Chancellor and President represents the University when it comes to public and sector engagement, advocacy and government relations.

The Office of the Vice-Chancellor and President provides leadership and support to all operational divisions of the University. The Office provides expert support to the Vice-Chancellor and helps to drive the strategic direction of CQUniversity Australia across its national network of campuses and partner study hubs.
The Office of the Vice-Chancellor and President incorporates the business areas of People and Culture, Corporate Communications and Strategic Engagement, Philanthropy, Social Innovation, Government Relations and Internal Audit. The Vice-Chancellor and President's Division also includes the management of the University’s many diverse geographical regions and strategic partnerships.
Professor Nick Klomp is a proven leader within Australia’s tertiary education sector, with a global reputation for instigating transformative change and innovative projects that seek to deliver engaging experiences to students from all backgrounds.
As Vice-Chancellor and President of CQUniversity, Nick is passionate about learner engagement and retention, inclusion, teaching excellence, research impact, sustainable practice and First Nations engagement and reconciliation. Professor Klomp is also a vocal advocate for regional universities and communities and served as the Chair of the Regional University Network in Australia for three years (2021-2024).
Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor in 2019, Professor Klomp was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Canberra, where he was responsible for academic strategy and teaching and learning quality across five faculties, as well as student recruitment and administration, student experience, marketing, international activities, graduate outcomes, and student equity and support.
Professor Klomp was also the Dean of the Faculty of Science at Charles Sturt University, leading a large and diverse faculty in seven schools across six regional campuses, with disciplines ranging from Veterinary Science to Dentistry, Nursing to Environmental Science, Forensic Biotechnology to Wine Science, Agriculture to Allied Health and more.
During his academic and research career, Professor Klomp was recognised with an Australian teaching excellence award and with awards for the communication and promotion of science. He was also a Science Correspondent for ABC radio for more than a decade.
In addition to this, Professor Klomp is recognised internationally for his research in applied ecology and environmental science. He has authored three books and more than 60 refereed publications, successfully supervised more than a dozen doctoral students, and attracted several nationally competitive grants.
Originally from Western Australia, Professor Klomp has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Curtin University, First Class Honours from Murdoch University, and a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He is also a graduate of Harvard’s Advanced Management Program (AMP 189) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
